Former NBA guard Delonte West was arrested Tuesday night for banging on the doors of a Florida police department and cursing at officers while holding two open containers of alcohol, according to WPTV.

The incident caused an officer to get out his taser, though it is unclear if it was used on the former Dallas Mavericks player.

West, who has publicly spoken about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, drew the attention of Boynton Beach police just before 9 p.m., then reportedly began to walk away when ordered to stop by officers. He initially refused to comply, then followed commands to place the containers on the sidewalk. He then stood up and put his hands inside his pants, causing one officer to unholster a taser.

He was then handcuffed, but “continued to be belligerent and screaming profanities and obscure rants,” per WPTV.

According to the report, West smelled of alcohol and slurred his speech.

He was released on bail at 5:46 a.m. Wednesday.

The 38-year-old faces charges of resisting an officer without violence, disorderly intoxication and having an open container stemming from the incident, according to arrest records.

In January, West was working at a Florida rehab center that he previously attended, according to ESPN. The former Celtics, Mavericks and Cavaliers guard made headlines in January 2020 when video of the ex-basketball star showed him bleeding on a Maryland sidewalk in handcuffs after an apparent fight.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban helped his former player get into rehab after the footage went viral.

West last played in the NBA in 2012, with two stops in the Chinese Basketball Association before his professional career unofficially ended in 2015.
