One of the Eagles’ final Super Bowl heroes left on the team is headed to the desert.

Philadelphia has agreed to send star tight end Zach Ertz to the Arizona Cardinals, according to multiple reports.

In return, Arizona is sending cornerback Tay Gowan and a 2022 fifth-round pick to Philadelphia.

The Eagles had a wealth of options at the tight end position, with Ertz – a three-time Pro Bowler – and Dallas Goedert both on the roster. However, Goedert is four years younger and costs significantly less against the cap, making Ertz the more likely player to get traded.

Trade rumors surrounded the 30-year-old all offseason, but Ertz put them to bed before the year started, saying he wanted to finish his career in Philadelphia in a press conference. Just five weeks into the season, that wish is now moot.

For the 5-0 Cardinals, the NFL’s fourth-best offense in points per game now adds another weapon – a man who caught the go-ahead touchdown in the Eagles’ Super Bowl LII victory over the Patriots.
