Hooters girl shares responses she gives to creepy customers

Not a lot of originality coming from the booths of Hooters, it turns out.

A Hooters waitress who works in the famous beer and wings joint revealed what she and her scantily clad colleagues are sick of hearing from customers.

The worker — who has chosen to remain anonymous — revealed to Insider how she has replied to the creepiest patrons and their lame attempts to woo her.

In response to a guest who asked, “Are you on the menu?” the waitress explained she just fake-laughed to ease the tension.

Her internal monologue? “‘Hahaha. OK, whatever, grandpa,’” she said.

She added that she regularly overhears irksome sexual comments from patrons.

One eye roll-inducing comment she regularly hears on the job: “‘Why aren’t you smiling?’”

“You’re actively working, running around doing something, going back and forth and someone will literally stop me and say, ‘Why aren’t you smiling? Just smile more. Aren’t you happy to be here?’”

The waitress — who is a Black woman — added that she often gets the comment, “I like me some hot chocolate.”

“‘I love me a nice, dark feisty girl,’ fetish-y phrases, I’ll get those sometimes,” she said.

But ignoring comments like these can be a lucrative part of the job: She once trained another server on how to make three-figure tips, in part by ignoring the sexist comments male customers make, she explained.

The anonymous waitress opened up about the crude comments she’s received from Hooters customers.

There are also instances where she knows that she won’t get a tip from patrons when they order a single glass of water.

“I’m not saying you can’t order water, but if there is a single guy or a giant group of teenagers and they all order water, no food, I automatically know I’m not about to get a tip,” she said.

The worker touched on other phrases frequently directed toward her. She often hears that “Hooters is a strip club” and that “Hooters girls are dumb.” She explained that many girls just work at the restaurant as a side gig to earn extra money.

“I have a master’s degree — this is my side job,” she added. “My manager from my first store was getting her nursing degree while she was a Hooters girl.”

Hooters has gotten some backlash recently, especially over their skimpy outfits. Back in October, workers were forced to wear shorts that barely covered their behinds. The company later reversed their policy on the dress code.

“As we continue to listen and update the image of the Hooters Girls, we are clarifying that they have the option to choose from traditional uniforms or the new ones,” a Hooters America rep wrote in an email to Business Insider. “They can determine which style of shorts best fits their body style and personal image.”
